About The Event

I am a mom of a non-verbal autistic 15yr old boy, who was born at 1lb 6oz that had to stay in the NICU for 9months. I have been encouraged to participate in holding a workshop and speaking with others based on my personal experiences as this is my daily current walk in life and I have seen and been through it all with my son.  I have had doctors tell me verbatim to not get my hopes up, to not get attached to my son, and if he does manage to live, that his quality of life will be low. He wouldn’t walk, he wouldn’t have any speech, he can’t hear. You name it, they said it. He is now 15yrs old, considered severely autistic, but with hard work he can read, he can write, and is now learning to type.  This workshop/speaking event allows me to share my journey in how we are defeating the odds with use of my non-idealistic creative methods used from the time he was in the NICU developing his brain, to drilling a pole across my walls to get him to strengthen his legs, and sharing the importance of not enabling due to their disability, because the ultimate goal is preparing them for adulthood the best we can.

This is my first speaking engagement, but it has been on my heart to reach others that are raising special needs children so they do not feel like they are alone.

So, join me as somethings I speak of can be applied to all children.
